Get to know sean aka “The Leftover Parts Guy” and “Mr. Chilly Palm Tree”

Sean McFall doesn't buy parts. He finds them and crafts them.

Every piece on this site started as something else… a wrench, a plow blade, a saw that cut for thirty years before somebody set it by the curb. He cuts it apart, works out what it wants to be, and welds it back together as something worth keeping.

The material picks the piece. Most artists decide what they're making and go buy what they need. Sean works the other way. A pile of salvage comes in, he sorts it, and somewhere in there is a heron or a dog or a face. The rust and the wear stay in — that's the part people reach out and touch.

Nothing gets hidden. You can still see the bolt threads. You can still read the stamp on the tool. He doesn't grind the history off to make something look new, because the history is the reason it works.

Ten-plus years welding, split between Corning, NY and Charlotte, NC. Commissions come from people who want something specific. The metal comes from neighbors, farmers and people emptying a parent's garage who'd rather see it turned into something than sold by the pound.

Mr. Chilly Palm Tree

Since 2004, Sean has run The Chilly Palm Tree Co., supplying cold hardy palms to yards around Charlotte: windmill palms, palmettos, things that hold their tropical nerve through a Carolina winter.

Different craft, same instinct: find what already wants to live there, and put it where people will see it every day.
